Author Interview with Katie Holland

Happy Tuesday everyone. Hope you are having a blessed day. Today I am sitting down with YA Fantasy author Katie Holland in her very own interview. Hope you will stick around to get to know this very talented author. Happy reading :).

Author Interview

Tell us about yourself?
I’m lucky enough to be a full time author right now. I also take care of my family and two very spoiled dogs. I love baking and taking pictures. Popcorn is my favorite snack and love anything sweet! I started writing in elementary school but didn’t get serious about it until 2015.

What genre do you write? Why?
I write YA fantasy and paranormal romance as well as adult contemporary, NA and paranormal romance

How does your normal day look like?
After finally getting up later than I planned, I start writing or editing. I try to do that most of the day while still doing boring things like laundry and cleaning. After dinner I try to read (that is when my hubby isn’t needing something (lol).

What books do you like to read?
All kinds of romance and YA.

Who is your favorite character you have created?
Alix. She was my first and I’ve loved seeing her evolve in the Nykara series.

Who are your top favorite authors?
Abbi Glines, Laurell K. Hamilton, Cassandra Clare

What do you have in the works right now?
I’m editing the fourth and final book in the Nykara series which will probably be out early in 2020.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
I plan on writing the second book in the Bay State University series. After that I think it’s going to be the start of a shifter series by various Kingston Publishing authors. And I’m working on a couple of children’s books.

What would you like to say to your fans?
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea what it means to me that people like what I write. Becoming a published author was a dream come true and because of you I can keep doing it. Also, it’s crazy that I actually have fans!

Author Interview with Karin Beery

Welcome to another wonderful Tuesday. Today on my blog I am sitting down with Contemporary Romance author Karin Beery in her very own interview. Check out what she has to say below. Happy reading everyone!

Author Interview

Tell us about yourself?
I’m one of three daughters raised in a small town in central western Michigan. My sisters have moved out of state, but I’m still living in small, Michigan towns (now in northern Michigan). I have a degree in English from Hillsdale College. I love watching football and hockey (though I rarely get to watch hockey anymore because the games are on so late). My husband and I are truly an odd couple — we don’t have much in common, but we both love country music and God, so it works. Really though, it works because we both put God first in all things, including our marriage. That sounds contradictory, but it’s kept us together for more than a decade, and we couldn’t be happier.

What genre do you write? Why?
I write contemporary romance or women’s fiction with a lot of romance in it. I write contemporary novels because I have no desire to do the research needed to write historical novels (though I enjoy reading them). I write romance because, for me, fiction is an escape. There’s enough drama and hardship in the world; I want to know that at least one thing is going to work out well (even if it’s made up).

What is your favorite hobby?
Hanging out with friends. I work from home, which can be lonely. I like doing anything with friends — going out or hanging out at home.

If you could be one person who would it be?
Me. 🙂

What is your favorite type of fantasy creature? Why?
Pegasus. That way I could fly wherever I want without having to go through TSA.

What does your writing process look like?
I like characters, so I start by creating detailed characters. I figure out their personalities and quirks, then I ask, “What would they do in this situation?” Then I keep putting them in situations until they end up together at the end.

What do you have in the works right now?
I’m working on the third part of a trilogy (my first series). It’s about three sisters, with one of them actually based on one of my sisters. I’ve already written book one (a novel) and book two (a novella). I’m excited to see how book three plays out.

Tell us an interesting fact about the world your books revolve around.
With the exception of my first book, the rest of my novels take place in a world built on biblical principles but without any salvation message or preaching. I wouldn’t be able to write believable characters outside of my belief system, but I know that it’s absolutely possible to write sweet, romantic stories that don’t contradict my beliefs.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
When I’m not writing, I’m editing and reading. Look for news about new book contracts (fingers crossed!) as well as lots of book reviews and plenty of tips to help other writers figure out how to put together a well-written story.

Do you have any special closing statement you would like to share with your fans?
Please don’t hesitate to say hi! I love getting feedback and meeting people, so please don’t hesitate to contact me on social media or by email.

Author Interview with Shawna Robison Young

Welcome to another eventful Tuesday. Are you enjoying your week? I have been struggling with keeping everything in order between writing and my day job. Wish me luck as I continue the journey. Now to bring you some entertainment, I am sitting down with debut author Shawna Robison Young in her very own interview. Hope you enjoy the read and keep your eyes peeled for her very first book to hit the stores here soon.

Author Interview

Tell us about yourself?
Hello. I’m a Navy veteran’s wife, a preschool teacher, and a busy mom of four children and two dogs. I love all things chocolate and could spend the entire day writing, lost in another world. I enjoy watching my kids participate in theatre, soccer, basketball, softball, voice, cheer, and anything else their hearts’ fancy. My guilty pleasure is the Bachelor. The ladies and men drive me crazy, but for some reason I watch it every season. Ha. Ha.

What genre do you write? Why?
Contemporary Fiction with a big dose of romance. I enjoy writing stories that make the reader feel deep in their soul. Stories that show we can make it to the other side of unexpected tragedy and heal. Also that we are more than our past mistakes. And of course I always have to throw in a love story.

What is your favorite hobby?
Going to craft shows and fairs. I mainly browse, but I love to see people’s creativity, and eating all the delicious foods is a plus too.

What is your favorite food?
Pizza. I could probably eat it everyday. Thin crust, sausage is my favorite.

What is your favorite type of fantasy creature? Why?
I do like the unusual, so for me my favorite fantasy creature would be anything hybrid that is part human part beast who is fighting against it’s evil side to find it’s humanity. Those stories of good vs. evil intrigue me.

Do you like to write with a pen and paper or computer?
I prefer the computer, but during any process of writing a story I have handwritten notes all over the place.

Who is your favorite character you have created?
Chuck Stone, the Navy Officer missing in action in my book Waiting Aming Ashes. He’s a protector, handsome, and strong and has loved his wife for as long as he can remember. Hopefully, this book will release in the next year.

Who are your top favorite authors?
I love Nicholas Sparks, Kristin Hannah, Gina Holmes, but I don’t have one particular genre I like over the other. Give me a good story with a little romance and I’m hooked. My other guilty pleasure is speculative type stories with romance: The Twilight Saga, Sunday’s at Tiffany’s, The Time Traveler’s Wife, and The Hunger Games to name a few.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
My book, The Unsuspecting Heather Meyers, will release in February/March. I’m looking at February 27th, my birthday. What a present that would be, but it depends on all the behind the scenes details. I’m also going to continue working on several manuscripts and hope to release at least one more book in 2020.

Do you have any special closing statement you would like to share with your fans?
Like the song, Reasons by Unspoken says, “This year has felt like four seasons of winter…”, it’s been a hard one, but spring is on the horizon and I’m excited for what is blooming in my writing career for 2020. When all hope seemed lost I didn’t give in and I kept reaching for my goals. Thank you for taking a bit of your time to learn a little about me.

Author Interview w/ Speculative Fiction Author Stephanie Ayers

Greetings guys and gals. Today on my blog I am sitting down with Speculative Fiction Author Stephanie Ayers, in her very own interview. Hope you will stick around to check out what she has to say and her books provided below. Happy reading…

Author Interview

Tell us about yourself?
I am the word whisperer living in southwest Ohio. I am a unicorn disguised as a human with an addiction to coffee and the mugs you drink it from, garage/yard sales, flea market and thrift store shopping, and a loud and proud football mom.

What genre do you write?
Some would say its speculative fiction, but I think it’s more horror and fantasy specific. Why? I follow where the voices in my head tell me to go. This usually means it will dark twist somewhere.

What books do you like to read?
Everything, but most especially fantasy—Xanth, Middle Earth, Narnia, Wonderland…

What is your favorite food?
Tacos. Isn’t that the only right answer?

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever done?
Well, I’m a weirdo by nature, so everything I do is weird, but in VA where I grew up, it’s weird to put mayo on your hot dogs. I’m sure that’s not the weirdest thing I’ve ever done, but it’s almost as weird as ketchup on eggs.

Are you a pantser or plotter?
Pantser.
Why?
The idea of planning anything makes me break out in hives, but I have found as I get older, having some bullet points help redirect me when the story wants to go off in the wrong direction.

How many books have you published so far?
A bunch between solo works and anthologies.

Tell us about your latest released book.
Catching Dragons released on August 10, 2019. This is the second book in the high fantasy series, Destiny Defined. It follows up with Edgar with a focus on his kingdom and all the things that have gone wrong since the dragon queen invaded.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
I have books releasing every month through the rest of the year, and 4 on the schedule from April-October of next year.

Do you have any special closing statement you would like to share with your fans? Without my fans, my writing is pointless. Like Ursula le Guin says, without readers to breathe life into my stories, they are nothing more than words on paper. Thank you for bringing them to life.

Interview with Pat Nichols

Happy Tuesday! Today I am sitting down with Contemporary Fiction author Pat Nichols. Hope you will join us as we get to know her and her books. Happy reading.

The Interview

Tell us about yourself?
After retiring from a twenty-seven-year corporate career, I am proving it’s never too late to follow your dreams. I was born in Illinois, grew up in Orlando, and have called Georgia home since the eighties. My high-school-sweetheart celebrated our fifty-fourth anniversary in June. We’re still best friends. Although Tim doesn’t like to read, he listens to my chapters during the draft process, gives me excellent feedback, and answers an important question, “Would a man say that?”. We have a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren—one is with the angels. We’ve been fortunate to travel to all our favorite places in the world—Italy topped the list. Now we’re homebodies enjoying time with family and friends.

What genre do you write? Why?
During my corporate career I worked with hundreds of amazing women from all walks of life. Their life stories compelled me to write contemporary fiction about women pursuing their dreams amidst life’s challenges.

What is your favorite hobby?
I enjoy reading and watching movies. Every so often I tackle a jigsaw puzzle. The last one had 2000 pieces. Took two months for my husband and me to finish it. When I ride in a car, I enjoy Sudoku. Fortunately, it doesn’t involve math, just patterns.

What is your favorite type of fantasy creature?
Any talking dog.
Why?
Although we no longer have pets, when our children were home had black Labradors. I loved those dogs and often wished I could read their minds.

Do you like to write with a pen and paper or computer?
I write with a laptop. Funny thing, I took typing courses in college and nearly failed the class. Who’d have guessed I’d learn to type with speed and accuracy. Oh, did I mention the value of spellcheck and the fact that I can’t read my own handwriting?

Who is your favorite character you have created?
That’s a difficult choice, but Sadie Liles edges out the others because after spending thirty years in prison, she had had the most to .

Who are your top favorite authors?
Two of my favorite authors are Francine Rivers and David Baldacci. Quite different genres and styles. I’m also a fan of Ane Mulligan, and newer authors Lindsey Brackett, Marilyn Marriott Howton, and Sherri Stewart.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
Book two in the Willow Falls series—The Trouble in Willow Falls—will release in October and book three in 2020. Later this year I will plot book four. When a reader asks how many books I plan for the series, my answer is God and my characters will let me know when to stop.

What would you like to say to your fans?
Your comments and reviews touch my heart and encourage me to continue perfecting my craft. I wish I could personally meet each of you and thank you for reading my debut novel.

Pat Nichols

IMG_E0145Retired from a twenty-seven-year corporate career, Pat Nichols draws on her experience in seven different management positions working with hundreds of amazing women from all walks of life to create stories about women facing challenges in the pursuit of their dreams. Her debut novel, The Secret of Willow Inn, Willow Falls series book one, was released January, 2019. Book two in the series is scheduled for release October 2019 and book three in 2020. Interview with Jen Lowry

Happy Thursday everyone, hope you’re having a blessed day. Today I am sitting down with YA Contemporary Fiction author Jen Lowry. I’m eager to get to know more about this author. What about you? Check it out below.

The Interview

Tell us about yourself?
I’m a momma in a blended family of seven, Literacy Coach, English teacher, podcaster, business owner, and homeschool mom.

What genre do you write? Why?
I started off writing YA contemporary fiction, and Sweet Potato Jones will be published in 2020 with Swoon Romance, but have evolved over the past year and challenged myself to explore different genres. It has been so rewarding. I will say that my favorite to write is horror/paranormal, contemporary fantasy and historical fantasy.

How does your normal day look like?
Crazy. On the way to work, I host a daily podcast for authors on my drive. I am a Literacy Coach, English I teacher at a large, metropolitan high school. After work, it’s homeschool time to my two fabulous boys, and I have to squeeze in cooking and napping in there, too. I write after the day is done, try to upload a YouTube video, and keep all of my social media up to date. On the weekends, I have “Homeschool Adventures,” as we call them in my house, so after we are finished up with that, I head back to writing before UFC. Sunday is church and errand day, so I’m always on the go.

What is your favorite hobby?
Hands down, watching UFC. Every Saturday, you’ll catch us around the big screen, eating snacks, and enjoying the fights.

If you could be one person who would it be?
Me. I could never be anyone else because that would mean I wouldn’t have my children, and they are my heartbeats.

Monarch Logo 2019.pngWho is the main character in your book? Tell us a bit about them.
Lyric Harper is finishing up her junior year when she receives the letter she’s been waiting for all year. She was chosen for a special summer program at Harmonic Arts Center and will spend her senior year with musical geniuses from around the world. She plays guitar (Daisy), writes music, and thinks of herself a little weird the way the music plays in her head.

What does your writing process look like?
My summer months are spent writing, usually 18 hour days (no joke) because when school hits, I’m too busy to push out novels. I bank them and set them to preorder. So, now my fall schedule is set with books for my readers to enjoy.

What do you have in the works right now?
I’m currently working on my second book of illustrated poetry called, Heartbeats, have to write my first adult sweet romance before the end of September to meet a deadline, and am compiling an anthology of 20 authors called, Everyday God Things, where all proceeds will go to support the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
Stick around because the Holy Spirit is always at work. Honestly, I surprise myself, so follow me to find out!

Do you have any special closing statement you would like to share with your fans?
Never stop writing. Have the courage to push through any self-doubt and continue to improve your craft each day. Don’t compare yourself to others. Be you. Honor your blank page. Write your story.

Interview with Elaine Cooper

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I am sitting dow with Inspiration Historical Romance author Elaine Cooper. Stick around to get to know her and find out about her awesome books.

The Interview

Tell us about yourself?
I’m a history geek who loves the simple life. I do not dream of cruises or visits to the Bahamas, but if you offer me a trip to a historical locale, I’m already packing!! I love both dogs and cats and would have a houseful if that were possible. Instead, my husband and I have one very spoiled chihuahua/terrier mix named Mocha. I live in the city but I prefer the country life. I prefer hot tea to coffee (Twinings English Breakfast!) but also drink coffee for the added caffeine.

What genre do you write? Why?
I write inspirational historical romance because I’m a romantic at heart and I love the history of the American Revolution. I grew up in Massachusetts and was immersed in Colonial American history from childhood.

What is your favorite type of fantasy creature? Why?
I think I find the Elves in The Lord of the Rings trilogy to be the most fascinating, perhaps because of their serenity.

What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever done?
Hmmm. I’m not generally weird but, when my sister and brother-in-law got married, the Best Man and I (Maid of Honor) put a live mouse in the glove compartment of their Honeymoon car. THAT caused a stir!!

How does your normal day look like?
Nothing at the moment seems normal because we just relocated from the Midwest to Southern California and my entire schedule has been upended! I’ve re-learned how to drive on insane freeways—still dislike that intensely—and manage to fit in a few work hours on my laptop each day. I’ve found all the low-cost stores nearby and enjoy shopping for bargains. Mostly, I’ve enjoyed babysitting my almost 2-year-old granddaughter and waiting for “the call” that my daughter-in-law is in labor with my grandson!

Tell us an interesting fact about the world your books revolve around.
My books are set in the era of the American Revolution. I think the most surprising discovery from my research for “Scarred Vessels” (to be released in 2020) was the slave trade in the northern colonies, in particular, Rhode Island. I grew up in a neighboring state, yet I’d never heard about that history. I suppose no one wanted to talk about the stories of our ugly past.

Tell us about your latest released book.
“Love’s Kindling” is set in Connecticut in the year 1779. Once again, little-known facts were discovered in my research that surprised me. I’d never heard before that the British attacked three towns along the coastline. New Haven, Fairfield, and Norwalk were either destroyed or damaged. Here is the back-cover copy:
During the American Revolution, Aurinda Whitney lives with her cold and calloused father, an embittered veteran of the previous war. Aurinda’s life changed forever when her father returned for her after that war, taking her away from the only place she’d ever experienced affection. Since her father blamed his daughter for the death of his wife in childbirth, Aurinda is convinced she is unworthy of love.

Zadok Wooding believes he is a failure as he tends the smithy at home while others go to battle against the British. Just when he has an opportunity to become a hero, he is blinded in an accident. Now he fears he will never live up to the Biblical “mighty man of valor” for whom he was named.

When the couple meet, they are both challenged to overcome adversity as well as their inadequacies. Unexpected secrets of their past emerge that can change their lives forever. But can they look past their present circumstances to heal—and find love?

Who is the main character in your book?
Tell us a bit about them. Aurinda Whitney is a young woman convinced that, not only is she unattractive, but no one would ever wish to marry her. Her life has been a lonely saga of separation and suffering. She tolerates living with her emotionally abusive father. Rather than desert him, she feels it her Christian duty to care for him and be a faithful daughter. But in the process, her heart has grown cold. She throws her energies into her weaving business and caring for the farm that she hopes to one day live in. All by herself.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
Since “Love’s Kindling” is Book 2 in the Dawn of America series, I am currently working on Book 3, “Winter’s Ravage.” I also have “Scarred Vessels” releasing in October of 2020. It’s a novel about the first black regiment of soldiers in the American Continental Army.

What would you like to say to your fans?
I write to please you, but also to please my Lord and Savior, Jesus. While I love to write heady romance, if you’re looking for erotica, you’ve come to the wrong author. I work very hard to assure as much accurate, historical details in my books as I can. And I LOVE to hear from my readers! You can visit my FaceBook author page at https://www.facebook.com/ElaineMarieCooperAuthor

Elaine Cooper

DK4A3243Elaine Marie Cooper has two historical fiction books that recently released: War’s Respite (Prequel novella) and Love’s Kindling. Love’s Kindling is available in both e-book and paperback.
