Cheryl Mackey

Cheryl lives in Southern California with her adorable hubby and 2 sons. She has a MFA in Creative Writing and enjoy games, reading and, of course, writing. She grows tall bearded irises and avidly listens to trailer music by groups like Audiomachine, Two Steps from Hell, and Future World Music. 
Cheryl’s favorite genre to write and read is YA Fantasy closely followed by YA Scifi and she would love to dabble in Steam Punk and Dystopian.

She has been writing since she was 13, using her mother’s dinosaur of a typewriter (it was from the fifties I think!) and her father’s special resume paper (without his knowledge).  Those stories are long gone, but her brain never sleeps without coming up with new ideas.

Fun Facts about Cheryl:

  1. Cheryl taught herself to read at age 4 and by the time she was 7 she was reading 10th grade books. Luckily her mom was a librarian!
  2. Cheryl loves nerdy things like tabletop games, video games, and playing Magic the Gathering with her eldest son.
  3. Cheryl was born in 1977 only a few months before Star Wars came out. She loves both Star Trek and Star Wars!
  4. Cheryl dislikes her old fashioned name…but her family nickname is just as old fashioned: Sherry.
  5. Cheryl has been married for 19 years!
  6. Cheryl has 2 sons, ages 13 and 17.
  7. Cheryl has 3 birds, Tango, Pilot, and Archades. (No other pets allowed where we live).
  8. Cheryl has written a total of 5 books. Her very first is not published it’s that bad!
  9. Cheryl’s food weakness: Pasta

Interview with Cheryl Mackey

Today I am sitting down with Science Fantasy author Cheryl Mackey. We are not only going to talk about her books, but also her life in general. Do you want to get to know her? I sure do…

The Interview

Tell us about yourself?
My name is Cheryl Mackey. I am a wife of 19 years and a mother of 2 teenage boys. I’ve been an avid reader and writer since age 6 (you can imagine the garbage I wrote at that age!)

What genre do you write? Why?
I write science fantasy which is fantasy with threads of science fiction woven within. I enjoy creating fantastical worlds to fill with interesting creatures, people, cultures, and concepts!

Do you have any pets?
I currently do not, which makes me sad.

What is your favorite hobby?
Aside from reading? I enjoy cross stitching!

If you could be one person who would it be?
I would like to be a musician or singer, but alas I am tone deaf!

Do you like to write with a pen and paper or computer?
I prefer to write on my computer. Too much to revise to use erasers or white out!

What do you have in the works right now?
I have currently just begun writing book 4 of The Immortals.

Tell us an interesting fact about the world your books revolve around.
The world in my book series, The Immortals, involves arrogant gods who created The Immortals to fight their battles for Them. They did this by cruelly ripping mortals from their lives and reincarnating them as powerful, magical, warriors. The problem? The Immortals only have immortal souls, not bodies and every time they reincarnate…they lose their memories.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?
I look to provide updates on the final book of The Immortals as I write, through my newsletter and social media.
