This enchanting village seems like something you might stumble upon while lost in a deep forest, just as dark is descending, and you’ve given up all hope of finding your way out again. Otherwise everyone would know about it, and there is an undeniable secrecy about this place.

So the question is, who lives here? The warm lights and the beauty of the architecture seem welcoming enough, placed there by a race with obvious intelligence and skill. Could be elves I suppose, or fairies…but that’s a bit too predictable, don’t you think? This is fantasy, so your imagination’s the limit…

As soon as I saw this image, I knew it would have to be featured. Does this not scream out “fantasy quest” to you? The abandoned, half-buried structure with a hole in the roof…light shining down on that misplaced tree…golden sparkles lifting off of it to follow the sunbeam? This would be one of those magical events so typical of fantasy, that comes about only on a certain day of the year, when the sun is in just the right position, and just the right person comes along to witness the event. What are those bright, golden orbs? Is it a magical effect, or maybe even something living–tiny creatures we’re too far away to see properly. Maybe instead of rising up from the tree, they are descending onto it. What has led up to this moment, and what is going to happen once it has passed? I’m not quite sure what those bundles are under the tree, but I’ll bet you have an idea of what they could be in the story that is already forming in your mind. All you have to do now is write it down.

Here’s a sight to stop your heart…a dragon’s head in the morning mist, rising above the tree tops. The swordsman looking up at it seems so tiny by comparison–this monster could easily eat him whole and use his sword as a toothpick afterwards. The headstone on the ground is not an especially good omen either. But heroes are made, not born, and legends are full of defeated dragons, so perhaps this brave warrior has some tricks up his sleeve.

Has he happened upon this dragon by chance? Or has he come prepared for the challenge? It’s up to you to decide his fate…

NEWSFLASH – Story Reading Ape Publishes Book…

VibratingVertebrae“But…but…but…THAT”S not YOUR name as the Author!” I hear you declare indignantly…

That’s TRUE – I’M not the AUTHOR, my Mother is, but unfortunately she is not alive to publish it herself, (she died in 2000), so I’ve published it in her name.

Today would have been Mum’s 90th birthday if she’d still been alive, so my sister and I felt that this book would be a nice way to celebrate Mum’s life and memory.

What’s it about?

As stated in the book description:

Agnes Mae GrahamWe all have dreams, loves and hopes; but what if you are a girl growing up in 20th century Northern Ireland before, during and after the ‘Troubles’?
From the poetic thoughts of our Mother, we get a sense of what it was like, ranging from humour, sadness, wistful thinking and sometimes just downright nonsensical, these are the words of one such girl.

Each poem tells a story.

My sister Lorna had kept and compiled all Mum’s poems she could find and always dreamed of having them published so others could enjoy them as well.

Enter Big Brother from stage left – NO, not the Orwellian one, or the Governmental one – I mean ME…

Fantasy Art Wednesday

This is such an enchanting place, I had to include it in this week’s Fantasy Art Wednesday. These twisted trees look ancient, with their tangled, mossy roots. There is a sense of mystery about this forest. I can believe that fairies or other fantasy creatures might be peeking out at me from between the boulders, or watching me from the branches overhead. The trees seem to form an archway, leading to whatever glorious sight lies beyond in that warm pool of sunlight. What is waiting for us there? Let your imaginations decide…

How Book Selling Really Works – Updated for 2016 | BooksGoSocial Book Marketing Blog

If you’re a new author, traditionally or independently published, one of the problems that you face is that you may not understand how book selling really works.

The publishing world in 2016 is similar to a Mad Hatter’s tea party. Nobody is sure what’s happening or how it will end.

Consider these facts:

#1 Writers who are dedicated to selling their books, sell more books. This is not a game for the faint hearted. Stephen King sold books from his car to bookshops when he was getting started. The 2016 equivalent is being on social media and producing interesting, shareable blog posts at least once a week, about your book, your themes, your characters, your locations, anything connected with the book, which will inspire a desire in people to read it.

#2 There are readers out there for your book. You just have to find them…

Fantasy Art Wednesday

Welcome to another Fantasy Art Wednesday!

This place has seen better days. There is part of a tower or castle looming in the background, but everything around it seems to be falling apart, including this entrance with gaping holes in the roof. It isn’t abandoned though–there is a guard on watch. Is that a gallows behind him on the other side of the wall? It adds to the sense of foreboding in this picture, along with the fog, the dead trees, and the crumbling structures.

Who lives in that castle? Is it a tyrant living lavishly on the backs of his or her subjects, while dishing out cruel punishments for any minor infraction? Or is this city part of of a kingdom that has fallen on hard times and is barely surviving? Maybe there’s a completely different twist to this story that only you can tell…
